School christmas gifts 2012

Somehow I made time for classmate/teacher gifts for christmas this year. Teacher gifts were tricky because I have 2 in school now (well one in school and one in MDO) and I'm on a budget. We recently got a sparkling new Sam's Club and I found a box of 10 cute metal ornaments with 3 truffles inside for $15. Less than $2 for a gift? Yes please!! For their main teachers (3), I also splurged and got $10 Starbucks gift cards.

For Maddie's kindergarten class, I bought 2 boxes of cherry candy canes ($.98 per box) and 2 dozen 10-color shuttle pens ($12 per dozen w/ tax and shipping). Attached a cute "have a colorful christmas tag" and voila!

For Maren's class (2 & 3 year olds), I wasn't quite as crafty. They got Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers ($1 per box) with an Avery address label gift tag.

I'm pretty proud of my frugal self!

What I WON'T miss

The mass exodus of my hair at about 13 weeks postpartum.

Engorgment.

I hate having a sick baby

I wish I could take it away :(

And I wish we could go 2 weeks without someone in our house being sick.

What I'll Miss

(And this one might be gross) Picking lint out of baby's hands and toes. I know, weird but I'm really going to miss it!

What I'll miss

5 weeks ago I have birth to our third, and most likely last, child. I've been having a hard time knowing this will be the last time to experience all the little joys that come with having a newborn (yes, there are joys despite the lack of sleep).

This morning, I'm propped up in bed nursing my precious boy and I'm thinking how much I'll miss the little noises- the sighs and hums of utter contempt. And every once in a while, he'll give a little sleepy half-smile. All is complete in his little world.

Day one in photos

Red River

Let the fun (and leg cramps) begin!

It's 5 hours after we intended to leave, but 2 new tires later we're finally on our way to Lake Barkley State Park in Kentucky.

The entire trip is 13 hours but we'll be breaking it up for everyone's sake. Tonight we'll stay in Little Rock, AR at The Peabody Hotel, where hopefully we'll get to see the famous Peabody Duck March.

7.5 hours to go, not counting pit stops, which will happen more than normal thanks to my 32 week preggo bladder.

Real or silk?

These came from our garden and you really can't tell if they're real or silk.

The smaller variety of sunflowers turned out prettier than the giant ones.

Sunflower update

We got our first sunflower bloom this morning and it's lovely! More are just around the corner.

Maddie wanted to show just how tall the flowers are by standing next to them.

Sunflower sproutlets

After all the rain we've had, the seedlings sprouted much faster than expected! Some came out with the coverings still attached.

Springtime flowers

Our new house has a great gardening area and since I'm not one to grow food, I decided that Maddie and I would grow flowers; sunflowers and bluebonnets for now.

We did sunflowers in a container last year so I'm confident that we can do sunflowers in the ground. The seeds on the right are the super super tall sunflowers (10-12' tall). The seeds on the left are a shorter variety but I just love the colors.

Movin' On Up

(cue Jeffersons theme song)  Well, the Locklears have outgrown our little, first home together and we're preparing to move in 2 short weeks.  Luckily, we're moving a short mile away from our current house so it shouldn't be too difficult (keyword "shouldn't").  Although, I'm really excited to have more space, (but not particularly excited about more space to clean) I have grown very attached to our current home and I'm predicting many tears on my part.

Wish us luck!
